The KVD is a newer model by Lew's, where they have combined forces with the legendary Kevin VanDam. Kevin aimed to bring a world class, competition ready casting rod with premium components, at an affordable price. He has used his experience to create an ideal model for virtually every technique. This rod may have entered a competitive price range, but the KVD factor may just give it the edge over others.

Estimated price: $99
  • Premium IM8 Graphite blank
  • Stainless steel guides with Aluminum-oxide inserts and Zirconia insert tops
  • EVA foam split grip
  • Lew's proprietary Full Contact reel seat, with increased blank contact on casting rod models

Superb value for money with this rod. Feels like a $200 rod. Covers everything (other than finesse) for me.

Bottom Line

The KVD casting rod is a project by Kevin VanDam which has impressed many. KVD aimed to bring a high performance rod, where there's an option for all kinds of techniques, all at an affordable price - and many agree that he and Lew's nailed it. This rod simply has to be considered if you're lurking around the $100 region.
