Superb

High-quality, Japan-Made braid for a very reasonable price.

Estimated price: $14.99
  • Relatively inexpensive for how good it is
  • Incredibly smooth without being waxy
  • Offers superb casting distance and accuracy on both baitcasting and spinning setups

Summarized feedback from Bass Anglers

Reasons to buy

  • Silky smooth without being waxy, this contributes to its superb castability and manageability
  • Holds its color very well which is a great added bonus
  • Great value for money, it holds its own against braided lines that have a much bigger price tag
  • Solid knot strength
  • Very little noise on the guides when casting/reeling in, a common complaint with braided line in general
  • Soft and supple which is a bonus for many anglers

Reasons not to buy

  • While it holds its color over time, the dye does come off on your fingers while spooling it. Not an uncommon problem for braid
  • Its supple/soft feel is great for some but it has led to many anglers complaining about getting wind knots/loops when fishing in windy conditions

One of the best braids I have ever used. Extremely smooth, very responsive, very quiet. Knots hold up extremely well (palomar). It might be a little too smooth, as I find frequent knots when casting in windy conditions, which take time to fix or have to be cut out.

Silky smooth braid. Makes barely any noise coming through the guides which is great. Only complaint strangely enough is it is almost too supple which sometimes results in knots/loops when fishing in the wind.

Bottom Line

Overall Daiwa J Braid 8X is a serious competitor in the premium braided line category while boasting a relatively inexpensive price tag. It feels incredibly smooth, casts an absolute mile, and holds its color well compared to many of its competitors. It is also quiet through the line guides which is an awesome added bonus.

Some anglers may have an issue with its supple, soft feel due to difficulties with wind knots and loops in windy conditions. Others, who prefer softer line will absolutely love this, especially for lighter, finesse applications.

Overall, if you are looking for a high-quality, all-rounder braided line, Daiwa J Braid 8X is definitely worth a try.
