Soft jerkbait
Full of salt giving it extra weight and a quicker fall rate, easy to keep in the strike zone and below the surface
Unique shimmy action from a diamond shape tail on the fall, falls level like a Senko

The verdict based on real customer feedback:

Reasons to buy

  • Heavier than most other soft plastic jerkbaits. This means it sinks quickly and is easier to fish on casting setups. This also enables anglers to fish this lure on heavier line than they could other soft plastic jerkbaits meaning you can throw it into some heavy cover
  • Tail holds weight which makes the bait fall level with a unique shimmy action. This bait gets a huge amount of bites on the fall, just like the Senko!
  • Effective bait for pressured fisheries, especially when fished weightless
  • Full of salt and this seems to make bass grab onto this lure for a little longer, giving you time to strike
  • When working this bait fast, it stays below the surface thanks to its extra weight
  • Did we mention the shimmy action of the tail on the fall? Seriously, you need to check that action out!

Reasons not to buy

  • They are pretty pricey, but you are paying for Gary Yamamoto quality
  • Not particularly durable in comparison to the Zoom Super Fluke

Bottom line

The Gary Yamamoto D Shad is a seriously underrated and underused lure in my opinion. Its weight allows you to cover deeper water faster than you could with a Fluke. In addition to this, the level falling action thanks to the extra weight in the tail provides an irresistible profile to both finicky and hungry bass.

While its falling, the tail shakes from side to side and it really does look incredible. Traditionally, a lack of weight has made weightless rigged soft plastic jerkbaits tricky to fish on a baitcasting setup, this bait really does solve that issue. You can cast it a mile on a baitcasting setup without having to worry about backlashes.

The downside of this lure is a lack of durability and a hefty price tag. You pay for quality though and you can be rest assured that this lure will get you bites!

If you are looking a more affordable and durable option that has stood the test of time, check out the Zoom Super Fluke.
