Reasons to buy

  • The ultimate baitcasting reel when it comes to casting of all lure weights
  • Hagane body is metal-free and provides virtually zero flex
  • S3D spool reduces spool vibration, providing a smoother experience
  • Shimano has included the MGL III spool in the Antares A - making this reel suitable for throwing weightless presentations with ease
  • Cross Carbon Drag provides a wider range of drag settings
  • SVS Infinity braking system has been a huge success for Shimano and they've installed it in most of their premium baitcasting reels
  • A unique drag sound has been installed in the Antares A. This helps determine whether a fish is taking line with a satisfying sound
  • Users have stated that this is the best reel they've got their hands on
  • Made with quality that will last you many years of consistent performance
  • Comfortable to use in freshwater and saltwater
  • If you're a baitcasting reel enthusiast - you don't get much better than this!

Reasons not to buy

  • Quite simply, the price - many argue that no reel is worth this price tag
  • Some say you can get a reel that performs as well, at a much lower price (Curado DC, Chronarch MGL)

Beautiful reel but in my opinion it is a little overprice. I personally would rather go with something like the Chronarch.

Bottom Line

Overall, the Shimano Antares A is without a doubt one of the most impressive casting reels we've seen - and if you're looking to add to your collection of the best casting reels, you should definitely give this reel a look.

However, many argue that no reel is worth this amount of money and you can easily find an alternative which provides everything that the Antares has at a much lower price.
